Aberystwyth is a scenic one hour drive away from Dolgoch Mill Cottages and offers plenty for the whole family.
At the northern end of Aberystwyth promenade you can take the short cliff railway up to the top of Constitution Hill (or if you’re feeling energetic you can walk up the winding path) where you will be rewarded with great views across Aberystwyth and beyond. The Pier offers plenty of seaside amusements and a place to eat, drink or just buy an ice cream. Walk through the pier to find an informal outside deck where you have the sea on three sides and views back towards the promenade. At the South end of the promenade are the old University buildings and the castle, a Grade I listed Edwardian fortress. In town you’ll find various places to shop, explore and eat and also the tourist information centre and the small, but very worth while Ceridigion Museum hosted inside the old Coliseum Theatre. A ten to fifteen minute walk east from the promenade takes you to the Vale of Rheidol Railway where you can board a narrow gauge steam train to Devils Bridge. The National Library of Wales, the biggest library in Wales, is just a 5 minute drive away and holds over 6.5 million books and periodicals, with the largest collections of archives, portraits, maps and photographic images in Wales.
Look out for The Aberystwyth Sea2shore Food and Drink Festival, held during Summer. It is an enjoyable event that we will definitely be go back to. There are activities to watch going on at sea, on the beach and by the bandstand and an array of small food an drink stores where the you can sample or take home a feast of local fine foods mixed with produce from further afield. There are a couple of food and drinks festivals in Aberystwyth that held during August and September.
